Preparation of fire safety – An Ounce of Prevention!

Each year there are many residential fires resulting in loss of life and damage property. Most fires are caused by incidents of smoking, cooking, children playing and the deliberate creation fires. Most of them may have avoided if precautions had been taken.

Importantly Easy steps can be taken to avoid most of the fires or to limit the damage to a minimum when a fire occurs.

Smoking:

• Use large ashtrays to dispose of the ashes
• Check inside and around furniture to cigarette butts dropped
• Wet cigarette butts and dispose of large cans as soon as possible
• Do not smoke in bed or when consumption alcohol such as drowsiness
• Keep cigarettes, cigars, matches, etc. out of reach of children
• safely dispose of matches lighters and age

Kitchen

• Never leave cooking unattended – Turn off the recorder when leaving or answer the phone
• Do not cook while the consumption of alcohol or drugs that cause sleepiness
• Wear tight fitting clothing when cooking
• Always wear gloves when cooking pots and referral hot pans – no towels please
• Never place flammable towels, mittens, etc in the oven
• Never use the oven as storage space
• Keep pot handles turned over to the boiling or exploit children
• Heat cooking oil slowly while carefully monitoring
• If a pan catches fire, put a lid and turn off the stove – do not try to move the boat
• Call 911 if the flame is extinguished

Children playing

• Keep matches, lighters and smoking items out of sight and reach of children
• Teach children over how responsible and safe use of matches or lighters
• Teach children not to play with the stove or other electric heating
• Never leave a candle unattended or within reach of young children

Other fire safety precautions

• Have the fireplace mantel by a professional sweep the spring of each
• For extension cables for use with circuit breaker – Never overload a switch circuit
• have no electrical cords under rugs or hung from hooks
• Consider that your electrical panel inspected regularly by a master electrician

Deliberate fires

• have a quality security at home
• Have good lighting around your home and garden
• When is far have someone check your house regularly
• Make sure your home is always lived in
• Keep your home, garage and yard clear of trash and fuels

If a fire occurs in your home:

• Gain hands and knees in crawl out – stay below the smoke
• Keep doors and windows closed
• If your clothes catch fire Stop, drop and roll to smother the flames
• Use a towel or cloth to protect exposed skin and / or cover your nose and mouth to facilitate breathing
• get out and stay out – call the fire department outside

An ounce of prevention is better than cure!

Some things to consider:

• plan and regulate practice a fire escape plan, including an area to meet with family members if separated
• have a survival kit on hand if you must evacuate your house – in the trunk of your car is also a good place
• Always sleep with bedroom doors closed – This offers some protection against fire
• Keep at least one hand fire extinguisher on each floor of your home – how to use
• Keep doors and windows for unobstructed exit safe, quick
• Install a smoke detector on every level of your Home – The doors of a nearby room
• The test battery and alarms electric smoke every month
• Wash your alarms every 6 months
• Charge the battery alarm at least once a year – two is better
• Replace old alarms that no more
• If the alarms to go regularly for no apparent reason, consider moving to another area – away from direct heat sources
