Why the smell of car exhaust have a home?
We have a Toyota Camry 2000. It is still in good shape, but when he to instead (especially in winter) you can feel the smell of burnt gasoline. Not as bad as being behind a 1980 Chevy truck on the road, but it is unpleasant. The trickiest part is the smell only occurs once the engine is hot or if it was within the last two hours. I was told that the catalytic converter lasts around 4-5 years, but I will not believe to be true (especially a Toyota precious). Do you think that is the catalytic converter? If so, is there a way to solve the problem without replacing them. If not, how are you? And something that could be causing the problem? Thank you!
It could be the catalyst of, or can be connected maniforld exhaust, muffler, or even a hole in the exhaust pipe, especially in the solder could be a bad weld or connection slack. If you smell raw gas, if you're an engineer, do not try to repair it yourself. Toyota can take place closer to and make see if the catalyst is blocked or can take a fluid catalytic converter (If you live in a state where you can go with it), topped the field in the interior (looks like a honeycomb in the inside the converter), then put back into the converter if you can pass an inspection if your state requires emissions testing.
